Smackbio placed the first in the Fourth International Fingerprint Verification Competition (FVC2006).
The FVC competition is the world largest and most authoritative evaluation of fingerprint matching technologies which is held once every two years.
FVC2006 was the largest one in FVC history.
Smackbio had developed a fingerprint verification algorithm for low cost embedded solutions that is given favorable reception of many users and submitted an algorithm based it in light category.
This competition had been held from November, 2006 to January, 2007 and the results were announced in FVC2006 official website on March 28, 2007.
4 different databases were used in the evaluation and each of them consists of 1680 fingerprint images of bad quality.
In light category, our algorithm made a new record in FVC history by achieving the average EER (equal-error-rate) of 1.916%, placed the first rank and received the most medals: 6 gold medals, 8 silver medals, 4 copper medals.
Particularly, our performance (1.916%) achieved in light category with limited resources was better than the first ranking performance (2.155%) in open category with no limitation and so the might of our algorithm with the world best performance was displayed to the full extent.
